The Pleasantville football team went on the road Friday night and shut out the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks 39-0.
The Trojans got a much needed win after dropping their last three contests, including their first two district games. Freshman Braylon Bingham continued to show progress as the new starting quarterback, while the Pleasantville defense held the Tigerhawk offense and talented receiver Shane Hostetter in check all night. Following their first win in district action, Trojans head coach Mack Jorth said he was pleased with how his team played, but said they still have room for growth.
“I thought we played real well. I think we did a lot of nice things and had a lot of big plays. Defensively we were really solid and physical and shut it down really well especially in the first half. The second half we came out and really just tried to force things too much to different people, and spent too much time trying to get the ball to specific people instead of just taking what the defense gives you. It was a good lesson to learn and overall a great win.”
The Trojans improved to 3-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in the district, and return home next week to host the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets.
