The Simpson football team put up over 500 yards of offense as they blew out Buena Vista 55-28 Saturday afternoon as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
Quarterback J Jensen III found Reed Worth three times in the first quarter for scores from 65, 94, and 32 yards out, as the Storm took a 21-7 lead after the first fifteen minutes, then traded touchdowns in the second with the Storm getting a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery from Joey Goins, and Jensen finding Cole Staska to lead 35-21 at the break. The defenses found some footing in the second half, but the Storm got more scores from running back Desmond Alexander from 39 yards out, and Staska getting into the endzone again, and finally a Briley Hayes 48-yard score as the Storm were trying to run out the clock.
Head coach Reed Hoskins tells KNIA Sports both the offense and defense had a great day on the field, but what he was most proud of was the way the team responded this week after a tough result against Wartburg.
“What was more special was all the work, all those tough conversations, and continuing to buy in to doing things the right way, when you win after that result and all of that investment, it just means something more. The guys got a taste of what it means to play like that, and they are really excited about continuing that moving forward, that’s for sure.”
Jensen threw for 335 yards and five scores, while Worth had 198 receiving yards and three scores. The Storm improve to 2-3 and 1-2 in conference play, and have a bye week this Saturday.
