hoffman-vs-dubuque

The Central College football team put together its biggest performance of the season in front of the biggest crowd of the year, a 55-16 route of Dubuque on Saturday in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

A frenzied homecoming crowd saw the Dutch rack up 552 yards of offense and throw seven touchdown passes on the day. After the Spartans kicked a field goal on the game’s opening drive, it was all Central. Hunter Hoffman threw four touchdown passes in the first half as the Dutch built a 28-10 lead, then he added one more in the third quarter before Keegan Glover fired a pair of scoring strikes in the fourth. The defense also got in on the action, as Brody Klein weaved 82-yards for a pick six.

Coach Jeff McMartin says that it was an all around team victory.

“Offensively, we did a great job protecting our quarterbacks so I give our offensive line a lot of credit. Hunter played really well, made some good decisions and got the ball to the right people, and our receives made some plays. And defensively for us, we were down a few guys today, and to hold them to under 20 points says a lot. That’s an explosive offense.”

Hoffman finished 27-for-40 passing for 281 yards and added 110 rushing yards on 16 carriers. Jeff Herbers had eight catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

The Dutch are now 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the American Rivers Conference. They’ll travel to Dubuque on Saturday to take on Loras.
