The Indianola City Council approved appointments to various boards and commissions at their meeting Monday, and are still looking for volunteers to assist city staff and the council on decisions moving forward. Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the council can’t spend multiple hours in open session reviewing a zoning ordinance or something similar, so they rely on the boards and commissions to hold a closer look at council decisions.
“If you look at all of our boards and commissions and they all have different reasons and methods of why they are there. We have the new Indianola Wellness Campus Board of Trustees, we have the IMU Utilities Board of Trustees, the Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning. A lot of what they do is help the council through their decision making process. The council has various things that they look at at any point in time, and the boards and commissions are really there to help the council out.”
