Marion County Public Health will be holding a dementia friends session hosted by nurse Judi Van Hulzen on October 18th.

The event will be held at the Knoxville Public Library from 5:30-6:30 pm, and is an opportunity for the public to learn more information about dementia, and provides those affected and their caregivers with resources that are available. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, at least 66,000 people in the state of Iowa are living with dementia, and in Marion County there are 800 residents living with dementia. Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen says this event will help keep the community informed.

“What it does is it just promotes change and education to create a more informed, safe, and respectful place for people living with dementia and their caregivers.”
