The Indianola football team could not get anything going Friday night on the road at North Polk in a crucial district contest, falling 27-0 to the Comets in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians defense played well early on despite North Polk constantly getting a short field, leading to a scoreless first quarter for both teams. The Comets found paydirt in the second to lead 7-0, and as the Indians final drive of the first half stalled out with just 20 seconds to go, the Comets took over and scored on a 78-yard touchdown as time expired in the first half to lead 14-0.

They would then score on the first drive of the third quarter to lead 20-0, and then ran out the clock as the Indians only ran six plays the entire third quarter.

Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports despite the final score he thought the defense played well despite the odds being stacked against them constantly.

“I think a lot of our guys defensively played with a lot of effort and played well, and I just think towards the second half with the field position and the amount of plays on the field they just got simply worn down. I thought they fought and played hard, good enough to win a game, but we gotta help them out defensively. It was three-and-out, and punt, and then back on the field. You aren’t going to win a lot of games doing that.”

The Indians passing game was 5/22 for 31 yards and two interceptions on the night, while Jake Pontier had 13 carries for 56 yards. The Indians fall to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the district, and host #1 ADM on Friday.
