Dutch Men Defeated in Non-Conference Soccer Match

Squaring off with the unbeaten University of Wisconsin-Platteville men’s soccer team, Central College dropped a 3-1 decision Friday night.

The Dutch moved to 5-5-2 on the season while the Pioneers are now 8-0-4. Starting midfielder Gabe Wilson and defender Lelong Miyeng both were not available for the match for health reasons. Key reserves Austin DeVilder and Matthew Neuhalfen were also not available. After Platteville took a 1-0 lead early in the second half, Central answered within a minute with a Solomon Manmola goal off a Nolan Piedimonte assist. The Pioneers would add two more tallies in the second half to put the game away.

Central returns to American Rivers Conference action with a 7:30 p.m. match Tuesday night at Luther College.

Central Swept by Dubuque in Home Conference Volleyball Match

After a marathon opening set went against the Central College volleyball team, the Dutch were defeated in three sets by the University of Dubuque Friday night.

Central (14-4, 1-1 American Rivers Conference) and Dubuque (14-5, 2-0 conference) traded the lead eight times in the first set and were tied 12 times before Dubuque won it 30-28. The Spartans would go on to win the next two sets 25-22 and 25-17. Three Central players were in double digit for digs, led by Colleen Kenney with 21. Leslie Snow had 15 and Avery Rexroat had 13. The primary setter, Rexroat made 27 assists and added six kills. Gracie Daniels had nine kills for Central while five players each had six. Snow had a pair of service aces.                                                                              

The Dutch host Loras College Saturday at noon.

Central Drops Final Men’s Tennis Match of the Fall

Wrapping up the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule, the Central College men’s tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Morningside College Friday night.

Playing at a neutral site in Des Moines and under NAIA rules where the doubles are a best 2-of-3 format for one point, the Mustangs (2-0) got the best of the Dutch (0-2). Central did get a win in No. 2 doubles from Ayden Fletcher and Alex Slaymaker, who took their match by a 6-4 margin. Morningside won the other two doubles matches to earn the point. Gavin Jablonski won the opening set of his No. 6 singles match before ultimately losing 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.

The Dutch are off from competition until the beginning of its traditional spring season, schedule for January 27th at Bethel University.
