The community came out to support local firefighters Saturday to kick off Fire Prevention Week. The annual Pella Fire Department breakfast was held at their station on Main Street, with Pella Fire Chief Randy Bogaard saying a record-high 910 residents came through line for a meal and other activities. The event is a fundraiser for the city and rural departments based in the Tulip City, and this year, proceeds benefit water rescue equipment.
