The Pella Christian football team used a big first half to wrap up regular season action with a 58-34 victory on the road at Colfax-Mingo Friday night, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

It was all Eagles from the start of the game, as Trevor Veenstra returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles added on three more touchdowns in the first quarter with a Benny Schirz 63 yard run, a 28 yard pass from Caleb Van Arendonk to Landon Fransman, and a Trevor Veenstra two yard run. Schirz added a 62 yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to make the score 37-0 Pella Christian, before the Tigerhawks got on the scoreboard four minutes before halftime. The Eagles snuck in another two touchdowns before the break, as Veenstra scored again from 50 yards out and Van Arendonk connected with Isaiah Breems for a 25 yard passing touchdown to make it 51-6 at the intermission.

Pella Chrisitan’s scoring concluded with a 47 yard touchdown pass from Brecken Ritzert to Kaden Kruid early in the fourth quarter. As the Eagles rotated guys throughout the second half, Colfax-Mingo scored four times, but P.C. held them at bay for the 58-34 win. In total Pella Christian had the ball offensively for just 10 minutes in the game and ran just 27 plays en route to scoring eight touchdowns. Eagles head coach Rich Kacmarynski said that he was thrilled with how his team started and how they performed throughout the night.

“Well I thought we came out great, obviously with the kickoff return for touchdown it really started things off. And then defensively we got a couple really key stops, and we were able to get settled. I think we only had four minutes of possession time in the first half and we scored 51 points so our offense was very efficient, and our defense did what it needed to do. So it was a good start for us.”

The Eagles end the regular season with a 6-2 overall record and a 4-1 district record and will find out today who they will host in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs this upcoming Friday.
