The 2023 Knoxville Cancer Relay is nearing their goal of $50,000 after donations from Hy-Vee and Backwoods Pizza at their post-relay party Saturday night.
The Knoxville Cancer Relay team celebrated the success of its September run with an event at Peace Tree Brewing Company. The taproom was packed as relay organizer Will Buttell thanked runners and sponsors, with donations from HyVee and Backwoods Pizza bringing the team’s total to nearly $40,000 raised for the American Cancer Society.
During the three-day event, more than 60 runners ran nearly 900 miles, which included a statewide run and in-town loops. Peace Tree Brewing owner Megan McKay pledged proceeds from their sales of two newly tapped beers this past weekend to the Cancer Relay team, to help reach the 2023 goal of $50,000. The team will continue to seek donations through mid-January. Knoxville Cancer Relay runner April DeRaad gave encouragement for more donations to come.
“There is a lot of people that think their amount or their contributions make that big of a difference but we are this close to our goal because of everybody. Every little bit and every event.”
