Knoxville Police Officer Kyler Keller was sworn in as sergeant at Monday night’s city council meeting.
Keller was sworn in by Mayor Brian Hatch, and his wife was there to pin his new badge on him. Keller was the former school resource officer for KCSD, so Chief Aaron Fuller gave an update that they are in the process of filling that vacancy. At the meeting, there was a presentation given by the architectural company Wendel out of Eau Claire, WI showing the blueprints, specifications, and plans for a new public safety and city hall facility which would be located at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School. The council approved a motion to move forward with the design, as they are still in the early stages of the overall process. The initial estimate for the new facility was given at just over $16 million.
Also at the meeting, the board approved an appointment of Mid-Iowa Planning Association as a grant administrator for the proposed Community Development Block Grant project, and approved the appointment of Curtis Architecture as the architectural consultant for the project. The council also approved a lease between the city and Paws and Pals Dog Park, an intergovernmental transfer of a public funds agreement between the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and the Knoxville Fire Department, and adopted an ordinance amending a section of city code pertaining to offset collections.
