The Twin Cedars Volleyball Squad swept rival Melcher-Dallas in round two of the teams season series and advanced to the 2nd round of the class 1A regional on Monday with a three sets to none victory 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18. The Sabers were in control for most of the match, however, the Saints made things interesting in set two. Twin Cedars was leading 15-6 when Melcher-Dallas went on a 14-5 run to tie the game but the Sabers were able to prevail. Coach Theresa Davis told KNIA/KRLS Sports her girls played determined and showed their toughness in that set two.

Davis: “They came out determined they wanted this really bad. Seniors wanted to finish with a win at home and get to that second round.”

Saints Coach Jesyka Nolte told KNIA Sports her team showed up with a better effort in the second match with their rivals, but it still was not enough.

Nolte : “Came to play to win. I thought we gave it our best and they played to win. It’s hard to lose that final game especially for the seniors, but I think they gave it their best.”

For Twin Cedars Kenzyn Roberts shined behind the serve line going 22/23 with nine aces. Defensively Cristen Durian had ten digs and four kills and Jillian French had five kills. Saydi Benz led in kills with five while Gabby Overgaard had five blocks and Jenna Mickey had 13 digs and 15 assists. Karsyn Mateer went perfect in 17 attempts behind the line. Twin Cedars is now 12-14 this season and will head to top ranked and defending class 1A state champion Ankeny Christian on Wednesday. Melcher-Dallas finishes up 4-17 and loses three seniors Brooklyn Metz, Mateer, and Kamryn Hendrickson.
