The PCM football team will open postseason play tonight as they host the Interstate 35 Roadrunners.
The Mustangs closed out their regular season last week with a 6-2 overall record after a commanding 45-6 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden. With that win, PCM finished with a perfect 5-0 district record to earn a #1 seed heading into the playoffs. The PCM offense continues to be led by junior running back Adrien Robbins, who has had a season Mustang fans won’t soon forget. Robbins finished the regular season with 1,882 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns to lead all of Class 2A in nearly every rushing statistical category.
The Mustangs will now open postseason play hosting the 3-5 Roadrunners, who are coming off a 47-3 loss to Van Meter last week. I-35 has found some success through the air this year from senior quarterback Grady Dodds, who has thrown for 1,067 yards on the season. The PCM defense will look to contain senior receiver Chase Dixson, who has 34 catches on the season, which ranks ninth in all of class 2A. PCM Head Football Coach Greg Bonnett stressed that his guys can’t overlook any team, especially in the playoffs.
“We don’t want to overlook anybody certainly. We just really want to focus on ourselves and making ourselves better. Whether it’s the round of 32,16,8 or whatever it is, everybody gets better from here on out. If you aren’t getting better you’re actually getting worse. We’re certainly not overlooking I35. They’re a program that never really has been overly down in my opinion. They’re a program that seems to always have tough kids and they have coaches who always have a pretty good grasp on what they’re doing. They’re going to be able to make adjustments like they always have.”
Tonight’s playoff game against Interstate 35 starts at 7:00 pm and can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
