A former Pella multi-sport standout is finding more success even as the sun begins to set on her tremendous collegiate career.

Emily Holterhaus was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The selection is the first weekly conference honor of her stellar career at the University of Northern Iowa.

Holterhaus received the honor after recording 38 total kills (5.43 per set) in helping UNI stay undefeated in conference play with its 12th straight match with a 3-1 win at Drake last Monday, a 3-0 sweep at Belmont and 3-1 victory at Murray State.

Following back-to-back performances of 18 terminations at Drake and Belmont, Holterhaus made history as the sixth member of the program’s hallowed 1,500 career kills club following a season-high 20 kill outing against the Racers in Kentucky. With a .314 hitting percentage on the week, Holterhaus also notched six total blocks, including three solo stops against the Bruins. Holterhaus ranks third in the MVC with 291 total kills (3.78 per set) and fourth in points per set score (4.21).

A native of Pella, Holterhaus is the daughter of John and Angie Holterhaus, and sister of Donovan and Jessica. The senior outside hitter is currently majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Strength and Conditioning.

Holterhaus is widely considered the most decorated female athlete in Pella High School history, with All-State honors over multiple seasons of volleyball, basketball, and on the track, where she was a state champion in the fastest ever Shuttle Hurdle Relay in Class 3A history, and as a critical member of the 2018 state team title winners. Emily is the all-time kills leader and was the top player on four consecutive state-bound volleyball teams.
