After beating Ogden 43-0 in their Class 1A playoff opener last week, the Pella Christian football team returns to Grundy Center tonight for the second round postseason game.
Tonight’s contest will be just the second ever meeting between the schools, with the first meeting taking place earlier this season in week three. The Spartans handed the Eagles their first loss of the fall in a 38-6 decision back on September 8th. Since that contest, Pella Christian posted a 5-1 record, while Grundy Center went on to finish the season unbeaten at 9-0. Eagles head coach Rich Kacmarynski says that while he knows it will be a tough test, he is thankful to get another shot at the Spartans.
“Well obviously we know we have our hands full. Grundy Center is a great team and has had a great tradition for a long long time. They’ve got a nice run going here. But actually I’m thankful for the rematch. I don’t think that we played our best football the first time in week three. And I also think we’ve grown a ton, and we’ve made some moves personnel wise that I think are advantageous for us. So, I guess I’m thankful that we’ll get a chance to redeem our week three defeat, but again we know we’ll have our hands full but I’m looking forward to it. ”
Pella Christian’s second round playoff game at Grundy Center tonight will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS, with Tyler Crabb and Zach Vander Linden calling all the action. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm and kickoff is set to follow at 7pm.
