Carter Places in Central’s First Women’s Wrestling Competition

The Central College women’s wrestling team debuted at the Luther Hill Open Saturday and sophomore Emma Carter finished in the top six of the 170-pound weight class.

Carter was one of Central’s six wrestlers to compete and led the team with a 3-3 day. She won twice by fall and a third time by a 10-0 technical fall. Leilani Asis Nonog finished 2-2 at 155 pounds, also winning twice by fall. She was one match away from finishing in the top six as well. In the 235-pound bracket, Asia Young finished 2-2 and Selena Snell was 1-2. All three of their wins were by fall. Aniya Coleman and Jeanna Hernandez were 0-2 on the day but both got valuable experience on the mat.

The Dutch are back in action next Saturday at the Waldorf Open in Forest City.

Baldwin Takes First in Men’s Wrestling Opener

Six members of the Central College men’s wrestling team placed at the Pointer Open Saturday, including a first-place finish by sophomore 141-pounder Pierre Baldwin.

Team scores were not kept in the 17-team invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Baldwin started the season 5-0, including a 5-3 win over reigning national qualifier Bradley Rosen of North Central College (Ill.) in the final. Senior 197-pounder Gage Linahon also made it to the title match of his weight class, ultimately falling to a nationally ranked Division II wrestler in Chase Stegall of the University of Wisconsin – Parkside. He won two of his first three matches by major decision. Sophomores David Vukobratovich, Sam West, and Hayden Hearne put together strong opening meets as well. Vuokobratovich was fifth at 125 pounds while West and Hearne were sixth at 184 and 285 pounds, respectively. Senior Duncan Delzell was also fifth at 149 pounds.

The Dutch travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for a 7 p.m. dual at Nebraska Wesleyan University Wednesday.
