While Governor Kim Reynolds initially planned to stay away from an official endorsement in the upcoming Iowa Caucuses, the Republican threw her support behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president at a rally in Des Moines Monday. Don’t expect any similar move from Iowa’s longest serving politician. In an interview conducted ahead of Reynolds’ announcement, Senator Chuck Grassley told KNIA/KRLS News he intends to stay out of the contested GOP nomination for president, and believes the rest of the federal delegation from Iowa will do the same.
“[Reynolds’ endorsement] doesn’t motivate me and I don’t think it’s going to motivate Senator Ernst or most of our congressional delegation,” he says. “We want all candidates to feel welcome in Iowa, and the best way to do that is to remain neutral and let Iowans decide who they think has the best chance at beating President Biden.”
