The Indianola City Council approved the vacation of a right-of-way for a portion of East Boston Avenue between 1801 East Boston Avenue and 210 North 18th Street at their most recent meeting, after a planned road from the early 2000’s was never completed. Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News a culvert needed to be put in and credits from the federal government were needed for the road to be put in, which made it cost prohibitive.
“Those levels of costs really make it hard for a developer to put in a residential development without an exorbitant lot price that they would be getting out of it, which our market would not be able to sustain. So the developer asked both our department and the council to approve a plat that did not have that road going through.”
Dissell said the outcome was a good partnership between the developer, the city, and the nearby property owners, and opens the property for future work.
