Knoxville Police Sergeant Kyle Keller is stepping into his newly promoted role as he transitions away from being School Resource Officer in Knoxville.

Keller began his law enforcement career with the Knoxville Police Department in April of 2007. That same year, he graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) with the 219th Class. Since that time, he has served the community as a patrol officer, narcotics detective, active threat instructor, and for the past nine years as the school resource officer (SRO). Internally, Keller serves the department as a field training officer, defensive tactics instructor, evidence technician, and reserve police department liaison. Keller is now helping train new SRO Cody Nichol before he steps into his overnight Sergeant role full time. Keller is excited for his new role as Sergeant but says he will miss all the students he got to work with.

“I’m going to miss everyone at the schools. I really am. It’s been a lot of fun. I’m going to just miss seeing the kids, and the staff I’ve gotten to know. All the community members and partners that I’ve really worked with through helmets and hotdogs and other events that we’ve done. I’m hoping that when I do see everyone out and about when I’m still working nights that we can pick up right where we left off and have good conversations.”
