The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association announced their All-District and All-State volleyball teams on Monday, and four athletes from Pella, Pella Christian and Pleasantville were recognized.
In Class 4A, Pella sophomore Katie Scheckel was selected to the All-District Central team. In her second season for the Dutch, Scheckel was 12th in the class in kills with 322, 30th in digs with 307, and 41st in assists with 382. The sophomore also surpassed the 1,000 career assist mark this season, recording 1,026 over the past two years. Scheckel’s efforts helped lead Pella to a 21-20 overall record in 2023.
Pella Christian had two selections for the Class 2A All-District Central team in junior Chloe Huisman and senior Annika Van Dyke, with Huisman also garnering All-State fourth team honors. Huisman became the Eagles’ all-time leader in assists this fall and was the first player in school history to reach 2,000 career assists. On the season, the junior was 19th in Class 2A with 691 assists, putting her current career tally at 2,196. As a senior, Van Dyke posted 168 kills, 180 digs, and 22 blocks. Huisman and Van Dyke led Pella Christian to a 17-21 record overall in 2023.
At Pleasantville, senior Danika Park was also selected to the Class 2A All-District Central team. Park posted 273 kills on the season, which ranked 36th in 2A. The senior played a part in the Trojans breaking the school record for single season wins each of the last two years, while posting 874 kills over her four year career. Park helped Pleasantville achieve a 27-13 record overall on the season.
