After kicking off the season with a win at Davis County Saturday, the Pella Christian girls basketball team will host Montezuma tonight for their home opener.

The Eagles outrebounded Davis County 53-27 and outshot the Mustangs 44.4% to 29.2% in their 15-point victory on Saturday. Montezuma started their season last Friday, downing Vinton-Shellsburg 59-51. Pella Christian trails the Braves in the series in the Bound era 6-2, falling in both of the last two meetings. The Eagles last win over Montezuma came in 2020, when they were 63-53 victors. Looking to snap their two-game skid against the Braves, Pella Christian head coach Brendan Foughty says his team has to take care of their business.

“We’ve got to be able to control what we can control. We’ve got to attack defensively, we’ve got to be able to win on the glass. And we’ve been preaching this week that we’ve got to win every 50/50 ball. If we want to take Pella Christian girls basketball to the next step this year, it’s going to have to be because of those things, those effort plays, just the mindset we play with showing up every single day to win and to compete and control what we can control.”

Coverage of tonight’s game can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com or viewed live on the Pella Christian YouTube channel beginning with the Scooter’s Coffee Radio Pregame Show at 6:15 pm.
