With their season set to begin on Tuesday, the Pella Christian boys basketball team is looking to play fast this season.
Last winter, the Eagles ranked fifth in the Little Hawkeye Conference in points per game with 58.4 and were tied with Pella for fifth in the league in assists per game with 13. Trying to improve on both of those marks this year, Pella Christian head coach JD Boer says that he wants to see his team play with more tempo.
“I always think it’s good to push the ball up the floor. We’ve talked about it before, you’ll never see our team walk the ball up the floor at any point, it’s never happened. We want as many possessions as possible. We want to keep the pressure on the defense from the moment we get the ball. So, when we talk about designing our offense, the first thing that we get to is transition offense, and then we make sure that our transition offense flows into our half court offense. So, the moment we get the rebound or take the ball out of the net after a made basket by the other team, our offense starts.”
