The Norwalk boys wrestling team opened their season with a strong dual performance at Dallas Center-Grimes on Thursday night, defeating the Mustangs 38-21. DC-G won the girls dual by a final of 57-3.

The Warrior boys won eight out of 13 contested matches on the night, including pins by Tyler Harper at 113 pounds, Kadan Borcherding-Johnson at 157, Dominic Tigner 165, Harrison Tripp 215 and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson 285. Norwalk also won three close decisions that proved critical to the final outcome. Kale Wadle won in sudden victory at 138 pounds, Tate Turner earned a 3-1 win at 144 and 175-pounder Tyler Stanford prevailed 9-7.

The Norwalk girls dropped to 0-6 on the year as Dallas Center-Grimes recorded three wins by fall, one minor decision and six forfeits. Freshman Madison Froehle earned the Warriors’ only victory at 105, scoring a 12-5 decision.

The Norwalk boys’ next meet is Saturday’s Keith Young Invitational in Cedar Falls, starting at 10:00 a.m. The Warrior girls return to action on Tuesday, hosting an eight-team tournament at 5:00 p.m.
