The Knoxville Basketball Squads thoroughly completely, and without much resistance dominated Cardinal on Friday night to a tune of a 68-28 girls victory and the boys rolled the Comets 89-24 in games heard live on kniakrls.com KRLS3. The girls held Cardinal scoreless for the first 10:00 of the game and built a lead as high as 36 at halftime and got the lead as high as 59 in the 2nd half with running clock. Brittany Bacorn led three players in double figures with 19 points while Hannah Dunkin scored 16 and Abbie Keitges poured in 15 points. Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports it was good to get off to a fast start after struggling early in the first two games.
Ritchhart: “We wanted to come out and play out pace. We got in ¾ court pressure and scored points and shut them out in the 1st quarter so a role reversal.”
Knoxville forced 29 turnovers while only giving the ball up eight times. The boys game was an even bigger rout as Knoxville rang up 52 first half points and won by 65 with the running clock in the 2nd half. Freshman Lincoln Norris led a balanced attack with 18 points, and Connor Willis had a career high 17 points. Coach Troy Pearson told KNIA/KRLS Sports, what impressed him about the win was how much his guys shared the ball.
Pearson: “We shared the ball really well tonight. We had 20 assists and that makes me happy. Sometimes last year we had maybe five assists. It doesn’t matter to these kids who scores and they’re hooping and hollering for their teammates from the bench.”
Knoxville forced 37 Cardinal turnovers and dominated the boards 26-15 while shooting 64% from the field. Knoxville girls are 1-2 while the boys are 2-0 on the season, both are 1-0 in the South Central Conference with a trip to Clarke coming up on Tuesday.
