Competing for bragging rights along Highway 163, the Pella Christian boys basketball team outlasted PCM for a hard-fought 65-46 victory heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagles led the game wire-to-wire, but not without resistance from the Mustangs. Pella Christian held leads of 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime, but Gavin Van Gorp’s 15 first-half points kept PCM within striking distance. The game remained tight in the second half, but the Eagles slowly started to grow their advantage. Pella Christian led 46-36 after the third quarter, before pulling away late for the 19 point victory. The Eagles put three players in double figures, with Tysen De Vries leading the way with 17 points. Dane Geetings added 14 for the Eagles while Josiah Vos had 13. In addition to Van Gorp’s 15 points on the night, the Mustangs got a game-high 18 points from Jacob Wendt.

Pella Christian improved to 3-0 on the season and will try to stay unbeaten in the back half of a doubleheader at Norwalk on Friday night. The PCM boys dropped to 1-3 on the year and will look to get back in the win column tonight, as the Mustangs basketball teams host West Marshall in a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader at 6 pm.
