The Norwalk boys wrestling team swept a double dual at home Tuesday night while the Warrior basketball teams had mixed results at Council Bluffs Lewis Central.

Norwalk’s wrestlers improved to 3-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference duals and 4-1 overall, defeating Newton 51-22 and Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas 72-3. The Warriors won 16 out of 21 contested matches on the night, including 13 pins.

Norwalk wins by fall against Newton were recorded by Tyler Harper, Aiden Moret, Tate Turner, Dominic Tigner, Tyler Stanford and Harrison Tripp. The Warriors added seven more pins vs. Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas by Madox Ward, Blake Lee, Turner, Liam McLaughlin, Kadan  Borcherding-Johnson, Victor Esparza and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson. The team returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Battle of Waterloo.

The Norwalk girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at Lewis Central, falling 65-58 in a game featuring 51 fouls and 52 free throws. The Class 4A third-ranked Warriors led 33-23 at halftime and 44-40 after three quarters, but were outscored 25-14 in the final stanza. The Titans pulled away at the free throw line in the final 30 seconds and made 22-of-31 foul shots for the game. Norwalk converted 16-of-21.

Bailey Birmingham finished with 31 points, six assists and four rebounds for the Warriors. Avery Thomas and Braelyn Clark scored nine points each and Ellie Dueland had three points and three steals. Birmingham and Clark both fouled out late in the game.

The Norwalk boys led by 30 points in the second half and defeated LC 71-47 for their fourth consecutive win. Redek Born and Grady Sigrist combined to make eight of the Warriors’ 12 three-pointers and paced the team with 29 and 11 points, respectively.

The Norwalk girls are now 7-1 overall and the boys improved to 4-1. The Warriors will host Indianola on Friday night, with the girls game starting at 6:15.
