The Melcher-Dallas Basketball Squads will travel wrap up their pre-Christmas portion of the season tonight. Both teams will have difficult challenges but for the girls it is a battle for 1st place and possible seeding benefits in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament later in January. Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports unlike many of the other teams in the BGC, this team will give the Saints a test for the entire game.

Goff: “It’s going to be a true test on defense with us guarding them and them guarding us and then on offense with us making shots.”

The Melcher-Dallas boys meanwhile, will have a monumental task on their hands as the Eagles, who have been the dominant team in the Bluegrass Conference and have lost just once and that was the season opener to Madrid. Saints Coach Matt Bennett knows his team is a prohibitive underdog, but that will not stop them from going to Ankeny and trying to pull off something that very few people think they can do.

Bennett: “We’re the underdogs and we’re going to be the underdog most of the year. I’ve told them, team with nothing to lose are dangerous, so they’re not even looking at us they’re looking past us so let’s go over there and shock the world.”

Girls game is set for 6:00 at Ankeny Christian.
