The Indianola City Council approved the development plan located at Deer Run Golf Course at their meeting Monday, which includes plans for course upgrades, commercial opportunities, and housing. The plan as presented to council includes a future clubhouse featuring a gym, pool, and concessions, and the 18-hole golf course will continue to operate on the site.
City of Indianola Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News concerns brought up at the meeting included dense housing that could be built in the area.
“Our comprehensive plan does allow for these levels of density for particular types of developments. So when we are looking at multi-family development, those are apartment complexes that are three or four stories tall, we do allow for up to 25 units per acre, and that is what the planned one is. So the density that is being proposed is greater than the traditional single family, which is usually around three to four units per acre. So when you are doing up to 25 units per acre, that is a greater density but our comp plan does allow for that.”
Approximately 22-acres of new commercial areas, and a variety of housing types, including single-family dwellings, town/row homes, and apartment units are also included in the proposal. The council approved the PUD in a 5-1 vote, with Councilwoman Gwen Schroder voting against.
