The Indianola City Council approved the Kentucky Ridge Development at their meeting Monday, which includes 50 townhomes and a proposed future park of .19 acres located at 1100 N Jefferson Way. City of Indianola Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News there were concerns about the drainage in the area, as that area holds a lot of key drainage points for stormwater runoff.
“There is a lot of stormwater that runs and drains through that property, and same with the sanitary sewer. There is a lot of flow that is going through that line, it is a primary line that connects up to our wastewater treatment plant. There are a lot of things we need to look at, a lot of engineering that needs to be done when we are looking at projects like this to make sure we are building the size of stormwater culverts in order to get that flow through there, and the same with the sanitary line. That line is about 20-30 years old, so if we are going to place 20-30 feet of fill on top of that, from the city perspective we would like to have that replaced so we don’t have to dig a giant hole sometime in the next 10 years to replace that line.”
