The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of south central Iowa. The warning starts at 3:00 this afternoon and continues through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Multiple rounds of snow are in the forecast starting late this afternoon and into evening locally, with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour possible at times through Tuesday afternoon. Widespread snowfall amounts of 6-9″ are expected, and some communities could see closer to 10-12″ depending on the track of the storm.
Sustained winds of 15-20 MPH are expected during the snowfall with gusts up to 30 MPH possible, and after the precipitation moves out, breezy winds of 25-30 MPH are in the forecast, with 40 MPH gusts possible Tuesday evening.
Travel will be at its worst overnight into Tuesday evening, but snow and ice could impact roads through Wednesday morning.
