Area highways are quickly becoming snow covered and slick. The Iowa Department of Transportation will have plows on state and U.S. highways overnight, but heavy snowfall will make it difficult to keep those roads clear.

County plows are in operation until 8 p.m. this (Monday) evening.

Trucks will start on the hard surfaced roads at 4:00 am Tuesday. Motorgraders will start on the gravel roads at 7:00 am.

Tentatively, the Marion County Road Department will shut down at dark around 5:00 pm Tuesday for the safety of drivers due to wind. Please stay home if possible. It’s likely trucks and graders will start at 4:00 am again on Wednesday.

If you must drive, please do so carefully and be prepared for winter-related emergencies. Drive attentively, eliminate distractions and allow plenty of room for plows to work.

The one to count on for today’s news and winter weather information is KNIA/KRLS.
