Area highways are completely snow covered and slick. The Iowa Department of Transportation will have plows on state and U.S. highways throughout the duration of this winter storm, but heavy snowfall will make it difficult to keep those roads clear.
A tow ban has been issued in Marion County. This means disabled vehicles will not be towed until the ban is lifted. Visibility is low and all area highways are completely snow covered, and driving conditions will only worsen until noon. Snow ordinances remain in effect in all area communities with emergency road clearing operations.
County plows and motor graders have restarted operations and are expected to continue until 5 p.m.
Most area communities have received 5-8 inches of snow overnight, and more is expected through the early afternoon. Pella is at 6″ and Knoxville is at 8″ at both KNIA/KRLS studios. Reports in Indianola are inching above 8″ now.
If you must drive, please do so carefully and be prepared for winter-related emergencies. Drive attentively, eliminate distractions and allow plenty of room for plows to work.
The one to count on for today’s news and winter weather information is KNIA/KRLS.
