Travel will remain extremely hazardous today as blowing snow continues well into the evening following a blizzard on Friday. Many local communities received 6-9″ of snow, and in some cases, a bit more, as wind gusts up to 45 MPH caused whiteout conditions on many rural roads and highways. Travel remains not advised by the Iowa DOT across the region. The Marion County Road Department reports that while they resume operations today, conditions will remain treacherous, and that many will not be able to get safely back on some rural roads until Sunday at the soonest. They ask for patience, as plow operators have already put in more than 70 hours due to the active week.
