PCM Community Schools has announced new weather guidelines when deciding to cancel, delay, or release school.
As was the case under the old guidelines, PCM’s top priority in the decision making process is the safety and well-being of students and staff. The Superintendent consults with experts and leaders inside and outside the PCM District, before deciding to modify the school day or cancel school due to extreme weather conditions. District officials use the National Weather Service (NWS) website to monitor current weather conditions and forecasts to make weather-related decisions. PCM specifically utilizes information from the NWS for Prairie City and Monroe and the NWS’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) wind chill index chart.
The new general guidelines state that if school will be closed or delayed, the district will make the notification by 6:30 am the day of the closure or delay. If the district can determine a closing or delay the night before, they will send a notification by 9:00 pm and no additional notification will be sent.
