Coming back from a disappointing loss in the Bluegrass Conference quarterfinals on Monday, the Twin Cedars Boys Basketball Squad defeated Seymour on Thursday night 59-43 in a consolation round game. The Sabers and Warriors were slow out of the gates offensively with the Sabers leading 9-6 after one quarter. But Twin Cedars’ defense took over and limited the Warriors to just four 2nd quarter points while scoring 15 to take a 24-10 lead at halftime. The Sabers offense got going in the 2nd half behind Holden Roberts, who scored 16 of his game high 18 points in the 2nd half. Sabers Coach Mateo Varese told KNIA/KRLS Sports this was the first time that Roberts had been shut down in any part of a game that his team was still in, which was a step in the right direction.

Varese: “We haven’t shown that we can play without him. We have played well when he’s shut down. But that was good to see him get face guarded and still show he can run around and we can get points, and that second half run really showed.”

Kaden Kloster scored 17 points and Wyatt Patty, playing his first varsity minutes, gave a spark in the first half scoring eight of his 11 points. The Sabers start their make up games on Monday hosting Murray.
