Neither game came nearly as easy as the first go-around, but the Pella basketball teams persevered and found a sweep in Oskaloosa Tuesday, in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The #13 in 4A Dutch girls won by a 52-46 margin, while the boys hung on 74 to 65.

The opener started for the Pella girls team in similar fashion to their pre-break domination — a 9-0 run, fueled by eight turnovers. However, the home team Indians did not roll over, and pushed the game to a 14-14 tie at one point. While the green and white never trailed, the Dutch barely shot over 30% from the floor and had their lead fluctuate as Oskaloosa made several charges throughout the contest. A big second half from Katie Scheckel, who scored 12 of her 13 points in the final two quarters, pushed the Dutch past a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double from Dasia Foster.

Pella’s boys game opened with the Dutch establishing a 12-4 lead, only to watch that advantage dwindle to two — but then re-extend to 21-10 by the end of the first quarter. Much like the girls, the green and white never trailed to Oskaloosa, but they watched what was at one point a 15-point lead reduce to three from the beginning of the 3rd to the middle of the fourth quarter. Pella’s impeccable free throw shooting — making 25 of 33 attempts, allowed Pella to hang on to victory. Luke Hardman’s 19 point performance led the way — which included 12 of 13 makes from the charity stripe, and Jack McGuire’s 18 points and Brayden Traetow’s 14 added to a balanced offensive attack.

The ranked Pella girls are up to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference; the Dutch boys have won nine of their last ten to get to 10-4 overall. Both are on the tough road to Dallas Center-Grimes on Thursday, games that can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.
