Though next fall may seem like a long way off considering it’s not even winter yet, soon students who plan to enroll in post secondary education next year will need to start filing for financial aid. Cheryl McCaskey, Guidance Counselor at Knoxville High School recommends filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as soon after January 1st as possible, once their 2010 tax information is completed
McCaskey says once the FAFSA information is returned it will give families a better idea of what college will work best for them. She says students shouldn’t disregard private colleges because it is more expensive initially as there are usually more scholarships and grants available at private institutions.
Those who have questions about the FAFSA or any sort of financial aid can call the Knoxville High School and ask for Cheryl or visit the Iowa College Access Network online at www.icansucceed.org.
