Local veterans awarded three top prize winners for the American Legion’s Flag Essay contest Wednesday. American Legion Post 89 recognized 214 students from Pella Community, Pella Christian, and the local homeschool community that wrote essays about what the U.S. flag means to them. Those were then judged by members of the American Legion, as well as local school administrators.
The following were the top three overall:
Thomas Huitink – Pella Christian Grade School
Lydia Brock – Jefferson Intermediate
Palmer Carlstone – Jefferson Intermediate
Hear from the winners in the contest on today’s Let’s Talk Pella. The three students will read their winning works at the American Legion Post 89 meeting on Monday, March 25th at 7:30 p.m.
