indianola-8

The Indianola basketball teams were swept by Dallas Center-Grimes on the road Friday evening in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader, the girls falling 52-42 and the boys 71-22.

The Indians girls battled all the way through the contest, trailing by just five at the end of the first and eight at halftime 30-22, but would see that deficit balloon after a 13-0 Mustangs run grew the lead to 21 in the third quarter. There was no quit for the Indians however, as they would switch to a zone defense and limit DCG on offense from then on, eventually going on a run themselves to get the lead down to just five, but would run out of gas and time in the fourth.

Head coach Jeff Janssen said there are no moral victories, but the improvement shown by the Indians was good to see and he hopes that can springboard them into success this last week of the regular season and into postseason.

Brooke White led the team with nine points.

The Indians boys got jumped on by the aggressive Mustangs defense, falling behind 28-1 after the first quarter and never being able to dig into the deficit. DCG led 43-7 at halftime, then got a running clock the entire second half. Andrew DeWall had six points to lead the team.

The girls are now 5-14, the boys are 1-15, and both teams next host Pella on Tuesday.
