For the second week in a row, Central College center Joshua Van Gorp was named the American Rivers Conference men’s basketball player of the week.

Van Gorp continued his scoring rampage, scoring 21 with 10 rebounds in a 104-89 victory over Buena Vista University Wednesday and 28 points with 13 boards in knocking off No. 20-rated Loras College 90-65 at Pella Saturday. That extended Central’s winning streak to seven games as the Dutch improved to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in conference play.

For the week, he shot 69.0% from the field, made 9-of-9 free throws, had two blocks and two assists while averaging 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. The two double-doubles give him 12 for the season and 19 for his career. A 6-foot-10 post, Van Gorp leads the NCAA Division III in field goals (216), ranks fourth in field goal percentage (67.1%), fifth in scoring (23.4) and 14th in rebounding (11.0). He’s moved into 12th place on Central’s career scoring list.

It’s the fifth time in his career that he’s received conference player of the week honors. Last week he was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and was tabbed as the USBWA Division III Player of the Week.

Central returns to action with a pivotal contest at the University of Dubuque Saturday. It’s a women’s-men’s doubleheader with the men’s game starting at 4 p.m.
