Two wrestlers from Knoxville and four from PCM qualified for the State Meet next week out of the class 2A District in Atlantic on Saturday. Daniel Gorskikh dominated in his two matches pinning both opponents in less than a minute winning his weight class while Tristan Sinnard had to go through the consolation bracket and ended up having to get into a wrestle back for runner-up. Sinnard told KNIA/KRLS Sports after last season’s heartbreak his off season work paid off this year.
Sinnard: “It means a lot I’ve worked hard and last year I could have made it through, but I got an appendicitis and it took my season away from me, and to have that success this year it really means a lot.”
For PCM, the Mustangs qualified Kaliber Fry in the 113 pound weight class as a champion along with brother Remington in the 138 pound weight class as a runner-up. Tucker Wheeler qualified as a runner-up at 144 pounds and Hewitt Brinegar qualified as a district champion. Knoxville finished 5th in the team standings with 104 while PCM was just ahead in 4th with 112 points. The class 2A State Wrestling Meet begins this Wednesday in Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines at 9:00am.
