The Pella Christian girls basketball team saw major strides from a freshmen class that saw quality minutes at the varsity level this season.
Of the six freshmen on the Eagles roster this season, three started in at least eight games and another three saw action in five games throughout the season. Statistically, freshman Rachel Kacmarynski was Pella Christian’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging a double-double on the season with 10.9 points and rebounds per game. Additionally, Chloe Snyder and Jessa De Vries were the team’s third and fifth leading scorers respectively, averaging 6.9 and 5.5 points a contest. Eagles head coach Brendan Foughty said it was exciting to see his freshmen grow into big contributors for the team this season.
“The growth has been tremendous. It’s really exciting to think about what the future of our program looks like under their leadership. And that group, I have a lot of confidence, has kind of gotten a spark for basketball this year and I’m excited to see what that class can do as they continue to grow. But there’s classes around them too that are doing a great job. And so, yeah, it is fun to watch our freshmen. It’s fun to watch all our kids grow and I just feel like, over the year, we took a huge step forward.”
The Pella Christian girls ended their season Tuesday night with a 10-13 overall record.
