The Pleasantville Community School District worked with city officials to improve their communications and safety protocols after an alleged threat was made in October.

The improved protocols were unfortunately needed earlier this month as new alleged threats were made by a student. Superintendent Tony Aylsworth said that the protocols were able to be followed and allowed administration to act quickly because a student brought their concerns about things they had heard to a trusted school staff member.

“Obviously, you don’t ever want these things to happen and you don’t want to have to utilize these protocols. But I think one thing worth highlighting in this most recent incident was that a student in our school system heard a classmate allegedly say some things that were concerning to them, they reported it to a trusted adult right away and so kind of that see something, here something, say something mentality was really important. And you know, you don’t obviously ever want these issues to happen, but when people report them, that’s our best chance to intervene in an immediate fashion and keep this place safe.”
