The Knoxville School Board has set a public hearing for school calendar modifications regarding snow make up hours.
In January, 46 instructional hours were lost for the Knoxville Community School District because of inclement weather. The recommendation to make up those hours are full school days on the last four Monday’s of the year, add two full school days at the end of the year including May 22nd and 23rd, and have a two hour early dismissal on the last day of school. The district is required to make up 3.5 of those hours and KCSD Superintendent Cassi Pearson says due to it still being early in the year, they are choosing to make up 24 hours.
“One of the reasons for that is that it’s still early February and if we have additional snow make up days we want to make sure we can fill those in and have families know about that as early as possible instead of the last minute adding those days to the calendar.”
This public hearing will be held at the regular Knoxville School Board session on Monday at 5:30 pm.
