The Indianola City Council approved a rezoning of 2103 E 2nd Ave from Highway Commercial (C-2) Zoning District to the General Industrial (M-2) Zoning District with certain conditions, only allowing four types of businesses. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the rezoning went against the initial Comprehensive Plan which led to some hesitation by council members before the agreed-upon restrictions, but the property owner and city worked through to find a solution that benefits all.
“A comprehensive plan isn’t necessarily to have something set in stone, but it is to provide a framework or guidelines for us to be able to plan for a well developed community that has many different focuses, one of which is having economic prosperity. Creating jobs, creating tax base, creating opportunities for people to shop local.”
