Plans for future improvements at the Knoxville Recreation Center were discussed at Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting.

At the council meeting, there was a budget presentation given by Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery regarding the fiscal year 2025 budget for the parks and recreation department. During the presentation, Ussery noted that the rec center will be adding new weight room equipment, a new rooftop HVAC unit, and plans were announced to repaint the pool in April 2025. Ussery says that the pool project will be extensive work.

“Every five years our staff currently has painted the pool and it has just been layer after layer, so we will be actually going through the process of completely sandblasting and stripping down all of those layers and repainting the pool. That will happen in April of 2025. It is kind of a big project. They do a tent over the whole pool and sandblast it so it doesn’t make quite a mess, but it does take almost a month for the entire project. In April of 2025 the pool will be closed for that project.”

Ussery also announced plans for new swings at Auld Park, as the current ones have been there since 1994.
