WeLIFT Job Search Center in Indianola is partnering with Project Iowa to run a poverty simulation tomorrow morning. Project Iowa coordinates and runs the Missouri Community Action Poverty Simulation with the Center for Social Ministry, and this simulation helps break down stereotypes by allowing participants to step into the real life situation of others.
Participants will go through the life of:
A single parent with limited resources and no transportation who must find a way to get to work and get their child to daycare.
An elderly person who must find a way to pay for both utilities and medication.
A young adult who must care for siblings while their parent is incarcerated.
An elderly couple who must raise their grandchildren and deal with their own health and employment issues
After the experience, individuals then have the opportunity to discuss what they’ve learned with their peers. The simulation is at the Lighthouse Community Center at 109 W Boston Ave tomorrow morning from 9:30 am to noon. Find more information below.
