The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved the disposition of part of the VA campus to the City of Knoxville at their meeting on Tuesday.
This part of land is considered “Block A” of the Veterans District, which is the area south of West Pleasant St. that consists of six acres of land. The city has talked to several developers that are interested in this land, which would include a potential senior housing project. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says senior housing is a major need in the community.
“The developers we’ve been speaking to, there are a couple that we have been speaking to in regards to senior housing which is much needed for Knoxville. Our 2016 housing needs assessment showed that we need approximately 300 units of senior housing and since that time no additional units have been built. There is a high demand here in Knoxville for senior housing.”
The City says that Block A is capable of accommodating multiple projects in various development forms.
