The Indianola City Council received an update on the next steps of the South K Street Paving Project, which required a redesign of the initial project to lower costs and lower the size of the road. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News with the project comes a requirement for the city to obtain the right-of-way from eight different parcels from six different property owners.
“The fear is, if we wait too long it could push the project into the next construction season. We need to make sure that we guarantee this project does not grow in cost by going over two construction seasons, and keep it in one. While we are making every effort that we possibly can to negotiate in good faith, there is quite an extensive process for us to acquire right-of-way in a more forceful nature. The council had that discussion, to what extent do we put pressure on to ensure that we acquire the right-of-way so we can guarantee that we are going to complete the project this year.”
