In a defensive grind of a game Tuesday night it was the PCM girls basketball team who scored a road Heart of Iowa Conference win at Nevada 35-24.
The statistics heading into the match up had most expecting a defensive battle and the two squads didn’t disappoint. The first half was a defensive slug fest that saw just six total field goals between the two teams, only two of them for Nevada, and a 13-7 PCM lead on the scoreboard. The Mustangs stretched their lead to 12 in the third quarter at 20-8 and were able to stave off a Cubs comeback with free throws and defensive stops down the stretch. Jordan Wood was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with nine points and Kelsey Townsend added eight important points off the bench in the win. With the victory PCM improves to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Heart of Iowa Conference. Coach Ben Anderson and the PCM girls will next be in action against top ten ranked Bondurant-Farrar on Friday.
